Pelli Clarke & Partners (PC&P) has revealed the grandeur of Mori JP Tower, now standing tall as Japan’s tallest building, at the heart of the freshly minted Azabudai Hills district in Tokyo. Ascending to a height of 330 meters, this architectural marvel dominates the skyline, symbolizing the district’s ambitious urban renewal endeavor. Azabudai Hills emerges as a monumental project, spanning over three decades, representing one of Tokyo’s most extensive private developments in history.
The collaboration between PC&P and Mori Building, a prominent Japanese developer, has birthed not just a skyscraper but an entire urban landscape. Envisioned as a ‘mixed-use modern urban village,’ Azabudai Hills integrates various facets of city life – from residences to office spaces, hotels to green spaces, art galleries to culinary delights. This holistic approach aims to redefine Tokyo’s city center, beckoning nearly 30 million visitors annually to partake in its vibrant offerings.
The Mori JP Tower stands out not only for its towering height but also for its distinctive architectural features. Clad in pearl-gray glass, its facade resembles a lotus flower, while its crown boasts four gracefully curved glass petals. Illuminated by L’Observatoire International-designed lighting, the tower transforms into a luminous beacon, casting its glow across the cityscape, captivating onlookers day and night.
Luxury finds its abode within the Mori JP Tower, particularly in the top eleven floors, where Aman Residences, Tokyo, promises an opulent living experience. Surrounding the tower are two additional structures, designed by PC&P, offering a blend of residential units and hospitality spaces. Emphasizing community and environmental sustainability, Azabudai Hills dedicates ample space to greenery and public amenities, fostering a harmonious urban environment.
The ethos of the ‘Modern Urban Village’ springs from the region’s geological legacy, reflected in its native flora and water features. Overseen by UK-based Heatherwick Studio and Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, the design blends seamlessly with the surroundings, honoring tradition while embracing progress.
Fred Clarke, co-Founder and Partner at PC&P, lauds the collaborative effort with Mori Building, underscoring their commitment to creating a forward-thinking and eco-conscious destination. With a focus on resilience and renewable energy, Azabudai Hills sets a new standard for sustainable urban development, promising a greener and more resilient future for Tokyo.
