Teenage Engineering has made a big impact in the music world in the last ten years. Starting with the OP-1 synth in Swedish House Mafia’s ‘One’ music video, the company has grown rapidly, offering Pocket Operators, recording gear, turntables for kids, and even branching into phones and AI devices. Their presence in the music industry is strong, but they are missing a top-notch DJ console.
Designer Chris Matthews has come up with a solution: the OP-J, a DJ console inspired by Teenage Engineering for DJs who love to mix and perform live. Unlike traditional DJ consoles, the OP-J is portable and sleek, with a design similar to their synthesizers. It includes rotating discs, knobs, keys, buttons, cross-faders, a speaker, and dual screens for playback and effects.
The OP-J is not just for playing tracks; it’s a full-fledged DJ console with features for live performances. It has keys and buttons for recording loops, playing melodies, and enhancing your set. While not confirmed, the OP-J may work with the OP-1, taking your live performances to the next level.
The console has color-coded knobs for easy effect control and a dedicated display for effects adjustments. It also has a built-in speaker for practice sessions and audio jacks for connecting to external speakers or headphones during live shows.
Chris Matthews’ OP-J is a valuable addition to Teenage Engineering’s lineup, filling a crucial gap in their range of music-making tools.
