The GoPro has impressive specs, recording 4K video at 120fps. But its fixed ultrawide lens may not appeal to pros who need more options. Liam de la Bedoyere came up with a cool idea: a GoPro with interchangeable lenses for macro, telephoto, wide-angle, and fisheye shots while staying compact.
Known as Bored Eye Designs online, Bedoyere’s concept is a fresh take on the GoPro, with a cool orange-and-black look. It keeps the core body and screen but adds a detachable camera module like the Insta360 Go 3S. This module can be removed for handheld or body-worn use and reattached for charging, supporting interchangeable lenses for different perspectives.
This idea came up during Productober, a month-long design sprint in October. Bedoyere’s rough sketch turned into a detailed 3D CAD model, showing his vision of a GoPro with swappable lenses.
While Bedoyere’s concept is new, it’s not entirely unique. Back-Bone, a Canadian company, offers a modified GoPro HERO12 that works with DSLR-style lenses like M12, CS, and C-mount options. Bedoyere’s design, however, blends the GoPro’s sleek look with pro-level versatility, potentially raising the bar in the action camera market.
