Lilium, the visionary creator of the world’s first all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet, capable of accommodating up to seven passengers, has exciting news for aviation enthusiasts in the United States. They’ve proudly declared the commencement of private sales within the U.S. market through a strategic alliance with EMCJET, a distinguished aircraft brokerage and management company. This exclusive partnership extends to EMCJET becoming Lilium’s dedicated dealer in the great state of Texas until the year 2030. Lilium’s mission? To clinch the title as the inaugural eVTOL to offer private sales in the United States, made possible through this groundbreaking collaboration with EMCJET. As part of this exciting venture, EMCJET will present the opportunity for individuals to acquire the first-ever Lilium Pioneer Edition Jets on American soil.
The Lilium Jet, an engineering marvel, will soon grace the skies across the United States, initially focusing on major Texan metropolises such as Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. The debut wave of Lilium Jets available for private purchase worldwide includes the highly sought-after Lilium Pioneer Edition Jets. This remarkable partnership with EMCJET marks Lilium’s fourth global dealership. In a nutshell, the Lilium Jet is a state-of-the-art, all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft meticulously designed for regional transfers and commutes, boasting minimal noise, impressive performance, and the hallmark of zero operating emissions, as per the company’s assurance.
In another significant milestone, alongside the announcement of private sales in the U.S., Lilium proudly disclosed the successful completion of the first set of high-voltage electrical harnesses for the Lilium Jet on October 12th, 2023. This sophisticated system of wires and cables, already patented in the U.S. and Europe, forms an indispensable component of the eVTOL’s safety and power distribution infrastructure.
The development of this harness system is the result of Lilium’s collaborative efforts with their trusted partners, GKN Aerospace for design and integration of electrical wiring, and connector supplier Rosenberger. This intricate system acts as the aircraft’s electrical circulatory system, elegantly bundling cables together to ensure the safety and organization of the setup. These cables play a pivotal role in channeling electricity from the aircraft’s batteries (located on its sides) to the engines (housed within the wings).
Safety is at the forefront of these harnesses’ design, featuring built-in redundancies to guarantee seamless operation. Lilium proudly touts their lightweight construction, ensuring they do not add unnecessary weight to the landing jet. What’s more, they are capable of handling high voltage, exceeding 900 volts, facilitating efficient and safe flight for the Lilium Jet.
In June 2023, Lilium celebrated a remarkable achievement, earning the distinction of being the sole eVTOL manufacturer to secure EASA and FAA certification basis for a powered lift eVTOL aircraft, following the issuance of the G-1 certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration. While this news underscores the eVTOL’s progress, the eagerly awaited moment of the first Lilium Jets touching down and becoming available for purchase is yet to be revealed. The skies are poised for transformation, and Lilium is at the helm of this exciting future in aviation.
