In a heart-stopping homage to a pivotal moment from Christopher Nolan’s epic space odyssey, ‘Interstellar,’ Minibrick Productions has meticulously crafted a miniature LEGO replica of the dreaded Miller’s Planet scene. As the Ranger Ship made its harrowing descent, hope gave way to despair and then sheer terror for Joseph Cooper and Dr. Brand. Not only did they discover that this planet was unfit for human habitation, but they also realized that one of their crew members had met a tragic end. In a cruel twist of fate, their mere minutes on the planet’s surface had exacted a 23-year toll on their mission, and a monstrous tidal wave loomed menacingly on the horizon.
This cinematic moment, which stirred a maelstrom of emotions and tension, could only be brought to life by the visionary director Christopher Nolan. Now, LEGO enthusiasts and fans of ‘Interstellar’ can relive the nail-biting drama with Minibrick Productions’ awe-inspiring creation. This tribute faithfully recreates the iconic Ranger aircraft, complete with the intrepid astronauts Cooper and Brand, as well as the enigmatic, shapeshifting robots TARS and CASE.
Miller’s Planet is the initial destination of the intrepid astronaut team on their quest to find a new home for humanity. While their crewmate Romilly remains on the mothership, Cooper and Brand venture to this eerie world nestled perilously close to a black hole. Little did they anticipate the devastating consequences of this visit: not only was it a fruitless endeavor, but the planet’s proximity to the black hole caused a distortion in the fabric of spacetime. Minibrick Productions’ rendition faithfully captures this fateful moment, from the meticulously detailed characters to the striking Ranger spacecraft. Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway are adorned in their space gear, while the towering TARS and CASE robots feature articulated arms that enable them to move like humans.
But the Ranger craft is more than just a visual spectacle. Lift the hood, and you’ll find a fully equipped cockpit where Cooper and Brand can take their positions. Furthermore, a cleverly designed crawl-space allows TARS or CASE to dock seamlessly. The craft’s rear hatch opens and closes, revealing the ramp for astronaut ingress and egress.
Minibrick Productions shares their vision for this LEGO set, saying, ‘This set would be a source of boundless joy for a child with dreams of exploring the cosmos, as well as a prized possession for any collector seeking to showcase one of science fiction’s most iconic vehicles.’ The LEGO Miller’s Planet scene from ‘Interstellar’ is composed of a mere 532 bricks, making it an accessible and enjoyable build for both kids and enthusiasts. Currently, it resides on LEGO’s Ideas forum, where it has garnered the support of over 4,000 community votes. If it attains the coveted 10,000 mark, LEGO’s internal team will consider turning this fan-made submission into a readily available box set.
