In a groundbreaking development for the world of electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Jetson ONE has achieved a significant milestone by gaining official approval for unrestricted flight across Italy. This accomplishment marks a pioneering achievement as Jetson ONE becomes the very first eVTOL of its kind to receive certification from the esteemed Italian space agencies and authorities.
On October 16th, Jetson proudly declared its successful acquisition of two pivotal flight permits from the Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI) and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC). This monumental achievement means that the sleek ultralight eVTOL, Jetson ONE, has now officially been granted the right to navigate Italy’s uncontrolled airspace, a feat that Jetson rightly touts as a global first.
The Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI issued its inaugural registration certificate for a recreational ultralight eVTOL, providing licensed pilots with the privilege of operating the Jetson ONE pre-production aircraft. This historic I-X078 registration in Italy was conferred on October 5th, 2023. Subsequently, an operational authorization was granted by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), allowing for the remote operation of the Jetson ONE, thus expediting the testing and product validation processes. As of the time of publishing, Jetson has confirmed the sale of over 300 units of its eVTOL, each priced at $98,000.
It should come as no surprise that Jetson secured these certifications and authorizations to extensively test and operate the Jetson ONE throughout Italy. The company had previously relocated its operations from Poland to Italy in 2022 and had since been operating from a state-of-the-art research and development and production facility situated in Arezzo, Tuscany. In addition, Jetson’s headquarters is hosted at a private airfield in the southern regions of Florence, cohabiting the space with an industrial facility and an 800-meter airstrip, making it an ideal location for putting the ultralight eVTOL through its paces. The airport complex also boasts a customer experience center and a pilot school, geared toward preparing individual flyers for their thrilling commutes across Italy with the Jetson ONE.
Celebrating these successive milestones, Jetson unveiled three Jetson ONE units at the prestigious ZeroEmission Mediterranean event held in Rome from October 10th to 12th. This event offered attendees an exclusive opportunity to witness the latest advancements in Jetson’s ultralight eVTOL, all while the company received official endorsements from Italian authorities, as captured in the photograph below.
Jetson CEO Stephan D’haene expressed his elation, stating, “Our airworthiness and compliance team has diligently collaborated with Italian authorities to attain these remarkable milestones. The operational authorization by ENAC grants us the opportunity to gradually expand the flight envelope of the Jetson ONE without subjecting test pilots to unnecessary risks during the exploration of the vehicle’s capabilities. Safety remains our utmost priority as a company, and this authorization is an invaluable enabler.”
