Here may come a time when you want to make your Facebook business page inactive. Facebook doesn’t offer a direct “pause” button, but you can unpublish your page to temporarily hide it from the public. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
What Happens When You Make a Page Inactive?
When you unpublish your Facebook business page:
-
It will not be visible to the public.
-
Only admins and editors will still be able to view and manage the page.
-
You can republish it at any time when you’re ready.
How to Unpublish (Deactivate) Your Facebook Business Page
-
Log Into Facebook
Make sure you’re logged into the account that has admin access to the business page. -
Go to Your Page
Click on your profile picture at the top right, then navigate to “Pages” and select the business page you want to make inactive. -
Access Settings
On your page, click on the Settings option, usually found in the bottom-left corner of the menu. -
General Settings
Under the “General” tab, look for the section called Page Visibility. -
Unpublish Your Page
Click Edit next to Page Visibility. Then select Page unpublished. Facebook will ask you to provide a reason — just select the one that best fits your situation or write a short explanation. -
Save Changes
After selecting to unpublish, make sure to click Save Changes to confirm.
That’s it! Your page is now inactive and hidden from the public.
How to Republish Your Page
Whenever you want your page to go live again:
-
Follow the same steps, but instead of “unpublish,” select Publish under Page Visibility.
-
Save your changes and your page will be visible again to the public.
Things to Keep in Mind
-
Scheduled posts won’t publish while the page is unpublished.
-
Messenger can still be used if you allow it in your settings, meaning customers can message your page even while it’s inactive (you can adjust this if needed).
-
Reviews and comments will stay intact for when you reactivate.
Making your Facebook business page inactive is a simple process that gives you flexibility without losing any of your content, followers, or settings.
