Facebook is a social media giant — but one of the biggest complaints users have is the number of ads filling up their news feed. While you can’t eliminate Facebook ads entirely (since the platform runs on ad revenue), you can significantly reduce the number and relevance of the ads you see.

      1. Hide Individual Ads

Whenever you see an ad you don’t like:

      • Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the ad.

      • Select Hide Ad.

      • Facebook will ask why. Choose the reason that best fits (e.g., “Irrelevant”, “Repetitive”, or “Already purchased”).

      • This helps Facebook show you fewer ads like that one in the future.

      2. Adjust Your Ad Preferences

Facebook gives you control over the types of ads you’re targeted with:

      • Go to Settings & PrivacySettingsAdsAd Preferences.

      • Under Ad Topics, you can manage topics you want to see fewer ads about. You can select topics like “Pets,” “Politics,” or “Gambling” and choose See Less.

      • Review Advertisers you’ve interacted with and remove those you don’t want to hear from.

      • Under Ad Settings, you can limit the data Facebook uses to target you (e.g., your activity off Facebook, interests, or personal information).

      3. Limit Third-Party Data Sharing

Facebook often uses information from your browsing history to target ads:

      • Go to Settings & PrivacySettingsYour Facebook InformationOff-Facebook Activity.

      • You can view what information Facebook has collected from other websites and Clear History.

      • You can also choose to Manage Future Activity and turn it off so Facebook stops tracking off-platform activity for ad targeting.

      4. Use Browser Extensions

If you’re browsing Facebook on a computer, some browser extensions can hide or block ads altogether:

      • Popular options include uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, or dedicated Facebook-specific ad blockers.

      • Note: Facebook constantly updates its code to counter ad blockers, so results can vary over time.

      5. Consider Facebook Premium (If Available)

In some regions, Facebook now offers an ad-free subscription model for a monthly fee.

      • Check in your app settings if “Subscription for no ads” is available.

      • This completely removes ads across Facebook and Instagram.

      6. Engage More With Friends and Pages You Like

The more you interact with actual content from friends, groups, and pages, the more Facebook’s algorithm prioritizes that type of content over ads.

While you can’t eliminate every ad unless you pay for a subscription, you can definitely make your Facebook news feed much cleaner and more enjoyable. A combination of hiding ads, adjusting preferences, limiting data tracking, and (optionally) using ad blockers can dramatically improve your browsing experience.
