HTML5, the fifth major revision of the HTML standard, was first introduced and officially released as a recommendation by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) on October 28, 2014. This marked the beginning of its widespread adoption and implementation across web browsers and development frameworks. Since then, HTML5 has become the standard for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web, replacing older versions of HTML like HTML 4.01 and XHTML. Its origins date back to January 2008.
