When Dyson launched their Zone headphones with a visor for fresh air, it left a lot of us confused. Even with a steep price of $1,000, the unusual design didn’t attract many buyers. But Dyson is back, looking to make a mark in the headphones market again, taking on big names like Sony’s 1000XM5, Bose QuietComfort Ultra, Apple AirPods Max, Bowers & Wilkins PX7, and Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless.
Now, the UK tech giant has introduced a more traditional option: the Dyson OnTrac headphones. These headphones feature top-notch ANC performance, competing with the QuietComfort Ultra and AirPods Max, and deliver great sound quality similar to the B&W PX7 and Momentum 4 Wireless. Positioned as a premium product, the OnTrac headphones aim to impress.
The OnTrac headphones are unique with their customizable design, offering over 2,000 combinations of interchangeable outer caps and ear cushions made from super-soft microfiber. They come in four basic colors: CNC Copper, CNC Aluminium, and CNC Black Nickel. There’s also a special Ceramic Cinnabar version with a unique painted finish.
With an eight-microphone system, these headphones can cut out unwanted noise by up to 40 decibels, processing 384,000 sound samples per second. Dyson focused on sound quality with 40mm drivers, providing a frequency range from 6Hz to 21,000Hz for deep bass and clear highs. They support Bluetooth codecs like SBC, AAC, and the latest LHDC.
Despite the strong ANC, the OnTrac headphones offer an impressive 55-hour battery life with noise-canceling on. A quick 30-minute charge gives about 9 hours of playback. You can control volume, change tracks, and toggle ANC with a handy joystick button on the outer cup. Plus, the multi-pivot gimbal arms provide just the right clamping force for comfort, avoiding pressure on your ears.
