In a collaborative effort, MIT Aerospace Engineering student Caden Moore and Northwestern University Economics student Hunter Lucas have ingeniously designed the Corsair Longboard – a foldable electric longboard tailor-made for the dynamic lifestyles of students. This innovative creation, currently in development, is not only portable but also addresses the specific needs of students who wish to seamlessly integrate electric transportation into their daily routines.

The standout feature of the prototype is its patent-pending kick-up and easy-fold hinge design, meticulously crafted and tested within the MIT AeroAstro department. Constructed with high-strength, low-weight billet aluminum and a self-locking mechanism made from durable chromoly steel, the Corsair Longboard is engineered to withstand the rigors of student life.

Powered by dual 600-watt motors, delivering a combined 1,200 watts of power, this electric longboard promises a top speed of 30 miles per hour, making it an efficient mode of transportation across streets, corridors, and campus roads. The 5,200mAh Li-ion battery provides a commendable range of 16 miles, ensuring a reliable and convenient commuting experience.

Corsair Longboard’s thoughtful design extends to its wheels, made of polyurethane for effective cushioning on various terrains. The interchangeable wheel sleeves offer riders the flexibility to customize their riding experience. Additionally, with 4A fast-charging capabilities, the longboard can be fully charged in an hour or less, depending on the battery level.

Caden Moore, having personally tested the Corsair Longboard at a top speed of 30 mph, attests to its performance, achieving a range of 16 miles under real-world conditions. The longboard deck, made from authentic Canadian maple, is designed to provide a genuine wooden longboard feel, ensuring an optimal riding experience.

Recognizing the challenges faced by students in navigating campus life, the Corsair team aims to alleviate these issues by introducing a convenient and portable electric longboard. Moore and Lucas envision a future where students no longer need to contend with the burden of bulky transportation, as the Corsair Longboard seamlessly integrates into backpacks. The project is currently seeking support through a campaign, inviting enthusiasts to be part of this groundbreaking initiative.
