In the vast expanse of watchmaking, SpaceOne has unveiled a celestial marvel that pays homage to the very cosmos that governs our existence. Introducing the Tellurium, a timepiece forged from Grade 5 titanium, where the celestial dance of the Earth and Moon around the Sun unfolds upon the dial.
Conceived as a microcosm of our solar system, the Tellurium features two polished titanium spheres – the larger representing Earth, while the smaller signifies its sole natural satellite, the Moon. These miniature worlds orbit an ionic plate bathed in a deep blue hue, evoking the infinite depths of space itself.
As the clock strikes midnight, the calendar at 6 o’clock awakens, its mechanism gently nudging the numerals to reveal the new date with a soft, rhythmic tick. This cosmic choreography is the result of a collaboration between SpaceOne, designer Theo Auffret, and the esteemed Auffret Paris Workshop, with Olivier Gamiette lending his expertise to the case and dial design.
Beneath the astronomical facade lies a feat of engineering – the Soprod P024 Movement – that enables the Tellurium to mimic the genuine movements of the celestial bodies it represents. The Earth sphere faithfully orbits the central dial, representing the sun, over the course of a year, while the Moon completes its orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days, adhering to the 29.5-day lunar cycle.
Within the watch’s intricate interior, a 31-toothed star wheel governs the date progression, while two smaller 12-toothed wheels track the months and the Tellurium complication itself. The planets are affixed to a sapphire crystal disc, connected to a 365-toothed ring that echoes the Earth’s annual journey around the sun. The Moon, tethered to a separate gear, can be precisely adjusted using the watch’s quick date function, ensuring its position remains true to the lunar cycle.
SpaceOne’s design team has stripped away unnecessary embellishments, allowing the cosmic spectacle to take center stage. The dial is graced with just two hands, fashioned from glowing aventurine, their luminescence reminiscent of spacecraft traversing the inky void. Rather than the traditional hour markers, three solitary numerals – 4, 8, and 12 – form a triangular constellation around the central dial, evoking the celestial bodies orbiting the Sun.
With a delivery window slated for October or November 2024, and a celestial price tag of 2,990 EUR, the Tellurium promises to be a rare and coveted piece for those who seek to wear the cosmos upon their wrists. SpaceOne has crafted a timepiece that transcends mere horology, inviting its owners to become explorers of the celestial realm, their journeys guided by the very movements that govern our universe.
