Hu’chu 55 is a unique sailing catamaran made by iYacht GmbH from recycled materials like aluminum scrap, license plates, road signs, and more. Actor and environmental entrepreneur Daniel Roesner was actively involved in the project, repurposing 90% of the aluminum used in its construction.
Roesner chose natural fibers, reclaimed wood, and recycled cork for the catamaran to give it a new life. The exterior has a rugged look with metal wrapping, while the interior features earthy tones of brown and black. iYacht’s design teams in Hamburg and Kiel worked closely with Roesner to bring his vision to life.
Hu’chu 55 is designed for easy control with its rig and sail system, featuring three front sails for different wind conditions. It has boards at the bottom for better wind resistance and two electric motors for quiet navigation. The boat can be recharged using solar panels and propellers that generate electricity as they spin.
The catamaran is equipped for permanent living, with a film area, storage for electronics, garages for diving gear, and a garden for growing fresh food. Roesner plans to create ocean documentaries and conduct research from this floating base.
Roesner envisions collaborating with friends and universities on environmental projects and hopes Hu’chu 55 will inspire others. The catamaran represents sustainable living and innovation, setting a new standard for eco-friendly seafaring.
