Crafting a triumphant motorcycle design invariably commences with a meticulously conceived concept blueprint. Yet, transitioning to the prototyping phase demands substantial input, given that only a scant few concepts progress beyond the blueprint realm to materialize into the tangible.
The EyeLights Rocket One stands as a shining exemplar of a seamlessly executed bike design. Remarkably, a mere three months elapsed from the genesis of its sketch to the manifestation of a functional prototype. Alan Derosier, the maestro behind this augmented reality-infused two-wheeler crafted for EyeLights SAS, adeptly navigated the delicate equilibrium between aesthetic form and functional substance.
The Rocket One, an electric marvel, debuted in the corporeal realm at EICMA 2023—a development hardly unexpected. According to Alan, the bike’s initial design trajectory centered on meticulous adjustments to proportions and silhouettes, followed by the iterative refinement of surfaces—a methodology akin to the design processes of automobiles. The outcome is a performance-centric ride boasting substantial battery capacity for power delivery and an admirable range.
This potent bike exudes hints of influence from Lotus bikes, yet it refrains from being labeled a mere mimicry by any stretch of imagination. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.6 seconds, the Rocket One generates 1200 Nm of torque on the rear wheel, yielding a formidable 180 horsepower—a stellar feat for an electric bike. Coupled with a range exceeding 400 km on a solitary charge, courtesy of its capacious batteries nestled within its streamlined frame.
While the aesthetics of the Rocket One are undeniably captivating, its pièce de résistance lies in its futuristic augmented reality-imbued navigation system. Not surprisingly, given EyeLights’ specialization in AR applications, the Rocket One incorporates technologies reminiscent of those employed by fighter jet pilots. The Heads-Up Display (HUD) in the accompanying helmet projects a vital cluster of information into the rider’s field of view, elevating the biking experience into the realm of the avant-garde.
