Since 1875, Audemars Piguet has been a trailblazer in watchmaking, mixing old-school craftsmanship with new technology and design. They’ve played around with different materials, colors, and shapes, from classic circles to unique trapezoidal and octagonal forms.
In the early 1960s, Audemars Piguet got experimental with asymmetrical watches, making only a few of each. They also introduced angular, geometric models that are still influential today.
One standout from that time is the Model 5159BA, launched in 1960 with only seven pieces made. Its 27.5mm rectangular case in 18-carat yellow gold broke the mold. The simple dial with dynamic lines gave a sense of movement. This model set a new standard for bold designs.
Another notable model is the 5182, keeping a traditional round shape but with a modern twist. It balanced classic and modern design principles, much like the contemporary [RE]MASTER02.
The 5167 went even further with a triangular case, a bold move away from traditional shapes. Its sharp angles and clean surfaces focused on functionality and readability, influencing modern designs like the [RE]MASTER02.
The [RE]MASTER02 Selfwinding, limited to 250 pieces, pays tribute to the 1960 Model 5159BA. It features a 41mm rectangular case in a new 18-carat sand gold alloy and a unique dial. The Calibre 7129 movement blends history with innovation.
Crafted from sand gold, the [RE]MASTER02’s case shifts between white and pink hues. The 41mm diameter and 9.7mm thickness give it a modern yet elegant look.
The dial is divided into twelve brass triangles with sand gold partitions, enhancing readability and creating a dynamic effect. The movement focuses on hours and minutes, keeping the dial clean.
Completing the look is a blue alligator strap with an 18-carat sand gold buckle, adding a touch of luxury. Audemars Piguet keeps pushing boundaries, mixing tradition with innovation to create timeless pieces.
