In 1976, the Concorde passenger airliner stormed onto the aviation scene, turning heads with its groundbreaking capabilities. A joint venture between the United Kingdom and France birthed this marvel, boasting speeds twice that of sound. Regrettably, soaring operating and maintenance expenses led to the retirement of this supersonic giant in 2003.
Whisking you across the Atlantic in a mere three and a half hours, the Concorde deserved more accolades. Yet, it’s now a relic of history, and the dream of a return to supersonic commercial aviation has faded. Enter Christopher Giroux, a designer with a vision to immortalize the Concorde legacy in a four-wheeled electric speed monster.
Inspired by the iconic aircraft, this shooting brake concept injects a much-needed dose of flair into the realm of automotive design. Meet the Concorde 20+, a three-seater performance electric car crafted to pay homage to the sound-speed-barrier-breaking Concorde commissioned for commercial use. The single front seat is reserved for the pilot, while two luxurious rear seats cater to the affluent owners reveling in the indulgence of an expansive cabin.
Both the exterior and interior showcase active aero elements that not only enhance peak performance at high speeds but also infuse a fluid design sensibility. Much like its aeronautical muse, this electric car is engineered for high-speed duels on the freeway, making it abundantly clear that cruising is not on its agenda.
The front section, adorned with futuristic LED panel headlights, mirrors the pointy allure of the Concorde, accentuated by a windshield gracefully enveloping the hood. Side profile renders reveal a seamless transition in shape from front to back, echoing the distinct Concorde aesthetic. The elongated shooting brake design not only optimizes interior space but also embraces the overall aerodynamic allure of the airliner. Shift your gaze to the rear, and the futuristic elements persist, serving as a testament to the Concorde’s enduring influence.
