The Colossea mega-yacht, a visionary project crafted by Pierpaolo Lazzarini, stands as a striking tribute to the historic N1 airship, which embarked on its maiden voyage from Rome a century ago. Stretching an impressive 204 meters (699 ft), this floating marvel serves as a versatile docking station for a detachable airship, echoing the pioneering spirit of its predecessor.
Lazzarini’s design seamlessly melds the iconic aesthetics of the N1 with contemporary materials and propulsion technologies. The entire structure, meticulously crafted from carbon fiber, exudes a sleek yet resilient allure. Propelled by eight electric engines, the airship’s upper structure boasts a specially designed take-off and landing area, perfectly attuned to the blimp’s distinctive shape.
With an eye for innovation, Lazzarini pays homage to the Norge’s historic achievements by infusing Colossea with cutting-edge features. Within the airship’s confines, 22 isolated compartments house essential installations, including LH2 tanks and batteries, ensuring optimal performance and safety. The spacious carrier gas compartments provide ample room for hydrogen storage, enabling precise weight distribution and serving as a reserve in case of emergencies.
Powered by LH2, the airship boasts a maximum speed of 165 km/h, while the yacht glides gracefully at 22 knots, thanks to three HTS engines. Enhanced with propellers, the airship augments sailing efficiency and can accommodate up to 24 passengers and 10 crew members. Meanwhile, the yacht offers luxurious accommodations, including 22 guest suites and expansive deck spaces with pools, catering to the comfort of up to 44 guests and 20 crew members.
In essence, the Colossea mega-yacht stands as a testament to Lazzarini’s ingenuity, seamlessly blending heritage with innovation to forge a new era of maritime exploration and luxury travel.
