Earbuds are a common accessory for many, providing a quiet escape and enhancing focus during different activities like work, exercise, or travel. They create a personal space, especially for those who want to fully immerse themselves in music or block out noise. Despite their benefits, nothing beats the eyes when it comes to assessing our surroundings.
Cell Buds are a new type of earbuds designed to help visually impaired people navigate busy places. These innovative earbuds have tiny cameras that provide important audio cues, making it easier to move around without needing to turn off noise-canceling features. They act as both a visual guide and a helpful tool in daily life.
Created by designer Minwoo Kim during the Samsung Design Membership course, these earbuds combine small cameras and AI technology to bridge the gap between regular audio devices and smart features found in smartphones. The built-in AI offers personalized assistance by accessing online information, while the cameras keep an eye on the surroundings for any potential dangers, like an approaching car while crossing the street.
These smart earbuds are not just for visually impaired individuals but also for travelers and anyone who wants hands-free help without relying on their phones. Kim focused on both design and comfort, cleverly fitting cameras, microphones, and batteries into the earbuds. The camera’s slight protrusion improves its field of view, ensuring a better awareness of the environment.
