Casio concept offers smart luggage for the jet set

But all is not lost for the baggage-beleaguered business traveller. Smart luggage design could offer a more civilised way to cope with the one-night stand of corporate travel. One intriguing concept takes inspiration from an iconic name in watches and musical calculators.

The AeroEase suitcase from designer Harshita Kaur adopts the distinctive aesthetics of Casio’s famous watches into a carry-on tailored for the overnight executive. Its polygonal, almost brutalist forms unmistakably evoke Casio’s trademark overlapping geometric style.

This avant-garde exterior belies smart functionality within. A laptop sleeve deploys at the push of a button. Biometric locks controlled by smartphone allow secure access. Velocity owners can monitor suitcase weight on a top-mounted display – crucial intelligence for avoiding excess baggage charges.

Such high-tech wizardry may spark concerns, however. Displays are vulnerable to impact damage, an ever-present risk in the chaotic choreography of the departures lounge. Those Casio-inspired bumpers could easily snag on surrounding bags or armrests in cramped cabin spaces.
