AZULIK Mobility introduced its first electric car, the EK, with a unique open design and a fiberglass body inspired by organic architecture. Designed by Roth Fablab under Roth Architecture, the EK was made for AZULIK Real Estate’s latest project, AZULIK Basin, and was revealed at a launch event on May 20th, 2024.
The EK can comfortably seat three passengers, with two on the sides and the driver in front of a wooden steering wheel. The interior includes a tabletop between the passengers, upholstered in waterproof nautical fabric, matching the seats. The steering wheel, made of tropical zapote wood, complements the car’s organic design.
Equipped with a reverse camera display and a digital tachometer, the EK features 3D-printed button panels for electric ignition and lights, all crafted from zapote wood. The central console has a double cup holder, a wireless phone charger, and an ambient humidifier.
The EK is designed for private transportation within AZULIK Basin, similar to a golf cart. It has a 2,200W engine, takes eight to ten hours to charge, reaches a top speed of 40 km/hr, and can travel up to 100 kilometers per charge.
Crafted by AZULIK Mobility and Roth Fablab in Francisco Uh May, Mexico, the EK involved a mix of digital, computational, and traditional processes. Local artisans and suppliers provided materials, with the car’s components featuring natural sealers on zapote wood. The windshield and medallion are thermoformed acrylic, and the emblems are handmade with ceramic.
Currently, only one EK prototype exists, unveiled on May 20th, 2024.
