Since introducing the idea of an energy-generating wall in 2021, designer Joe Doucet has been determined to make it a reality. Airiva, a modular rotary wind turbine wall, is set to revolutionize urban energy landscapes. This innovation makes wind power more accessible in cities.
Wind energy is crucial in reducing fossil fuel use. Airiva overcomes the challenge of traditional turbines’ bulky appearance by combining functionality with style.
The turbine wall consists of multiple rotary blades, each spinning independently to generate clean electricity. It is designed for urban and suburban areas, offering a scalable solution that can supplement or replace existing power systems. The energy produced can be used on-site, stored, or fed back into the grid. Airiva is quiet, safe, and suitable for various environments.
Sustainability is a core value of Airiva. The production process aims to use at least 80% recycled materials, following circular economy principles to minimize environmental impact.
One of Airiva’s key features is its flexibility. The modular design allows for easy transport and customization to fit specific site requirements. Multiple units can be connected to create a versatile clean energy system adaptable to different needs. Airiva also integrates well with other energy technologies, enhancing existing setups.
Smart technology enables remote monitoring of system and site data for comprehensive oversight. Each unit is designed for global distribution, with two 2100mm segments and an end hub for controls and power management.
Initially designed with 25 vertical-axis turbines producing 10 kilowatts, the refined Airiva is expected to generate around 2,200 kWh annually per unit. While this may not meet all household energy needs, it can lead to significant energy savings. Larger installations, like those in commercial settings, can generate even more power, showcasing the system’s scalability.
Airiva is currently in the prototyping phase, with customer pilots planned for later this year and orders opening in 2025. The aim is to offer competitive costs on both domestic and international levels. These upcoming pilots will demonstrate Airiva’s effectiveness and practicality in real-world conditions.
